Check your phone and see if you have international calling, if not you might have to add it.   When I ordered a thermovalve from them I communicated by email.  At minimum you should create an account with them, it might provide a better avenue to communicate.

Back ~3 years ago I got a call from a head hunter out of Canada, made a mistake of calling him back, cost me $35 in long distance charge.

So, I am getting ready to leave on my trip.  Been monitoring the 10 day weather forecast for MT & WA, trying to make sure I'm through MT before any cold fronts hit.  So far forecast looks good.

Planning to leave on Tuesday AM.

First question on routing, I've put in a route from E TN to Billings MT on both Mapquest and my Garmin 760.  In both cases it takes me up to Sioux Falls SD to 90 then east.  Seems counter intuitive.  Plus I know that I90 is still a mess west of Sioux Falls.

I'm thing about going heading west on I80 in Nebraska, then north after Cheyenne. WY.  Anyone have any thoughts on why this isn't a decent route, it is slightly longer.

When we stopped at Yellowstone for a few days in the first week of Oct 2019, we came down I-25 from Billings to I-80 at Cheyenne because of a big winter storm in North and South Dakota. I-25 is a little rough close to Cheyenne but other than that the road was smooth. But the wind was brutal, and that was when I discovered my awnings need to be zip-tied closed or the wind may yank them out, and fixing that in 40 mph gusts isn't much fun. I'd say check wind forecasts, other than the wind I-25 was a nice drive with little traffic.

Also, this happened when we were at Yellowstone, but by the time we were leaving roads were clear. It was fun to drive around with the car in the snow in Yellowstone and surrounding mountains but not much fun to learn how to change the frozen fuel filter and reprime the injection pump at 15F!

I bought a Pro Aqua 16000 and have been very happy with it. The regeneration is fairly easy, but takes about 1/2 hour to fully accomplish. I only have to regenerate about every 3-4 months depending on water hardness. You divide 16000 by the water hardness and that gives you about the number of days between each regeneration.

Need help on Cruise Control, 5 button thermostat, and sunshade mounting brackets
Fred L

1) This past week, cruise control worked heading north for 2 days, did not work on return 2 day trip. The light does not come on when pressing the smart wheel button.

2) (The front heater would come on and shut down after a few minutes. This started on the way north in April.)  While parked the front heater would only work when in the heat pump position. Heat pump did not come on.  Felt the heater needed service. Went to use the heat pump instead and that's when the furnace came on. The next day it worked fine using the furnace setting. I think the 5 button thermostat is bad.

3) While driving down I-95 in CN into NY, the road is so bad we hit one bump that caused the sun shade above driver to break the plastic mounting brackets. There is no name on on the shade. Hoping to find replacement brackets. Made 3 calls so far, and the dealer comment is the unit is too old for parts and Monaco is out of business. I'm sure this type of shade was being used in newer coaches.

I did search the A/C section and did not see any thermostat sections that seemed to fit my situation. And the cruise section talked about Smart Wheel test, but could not find that test either.

Anyway, any direction would be appreciated.

See above.  This was a post for a multiple Topic post, a violation....

Your 5 Button CCC sounds like to needs to be rebooted to restore the communications with devices. Procedure below and in your 5 Button CCC Manual

16. SYSTEM RESET
a. Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF position.
b. Simultaneously depress and hold the MODE and ZONE
push-buttons while turning the ON/OFF switch to ON.
FF should appear in the LCD display until the MODE
and ZONE push-buttons are released.

I don't know if it's better to use this thread or start a new one.  Not only is my semicircle shaped runner at the top beat up, but the upper mid section has been loose for some time.  Now I find that the brackets connecting the center section have snapped.  see pictures below.  Not sure if replacement parts are available or if I need to get a whole new radius shower door.  ANyone have info on replacement parts?

Your sunshade is probably made by Carefree.  I had the mounting brackets break on ours also.  I could not get just the brackets (they have changed the design) and had to order a new shade.

Richard gave you good advice on your Smartwheel and resetting your Dometic Comfort Control Center thermostat.  Your heater as well as the Heat Pump are commanded through your AC system.  You may also have to clean the RJ11 (telephone cord) connectors up under the AC unit (where your filter is).

After reading many articles on here and IRV2 about the handling / driving on the Monaco's; I have now arrived at what I feel is an interesting "observation"?  How many, not as a number but as a general rule, of the coach's that have added the say watts linkage, crossbars, stabilizers, and steering box adjustments, are 40's that have a tag axle as compared to the two axle coaches?  As I look at some of the pictures, in the bio's, it looks to me that the coaches that get the best results are the ones with tag axles.  The reason I ask, you wonder, is because I have done all of this and my 38' Monaco still tires me out.  I drove trucks for 25 yrs, and never really thought about steering, now it is a constant.  Wander this way, wander that way, wind, crown, passing, being passed, REALLY?!

I know these threads get old, but I also know, that people still read them.  There is definitely a lot of information on these forums and I love it and them.

Thanks to everyone that posts, and especially to the ones that make the videos and share there experience.

Yes, in thinking about the size of your device, the biggest challenge is finding a convenient location to mount it.

Hopefully, I won't have to need one. But if I do, I know exactly who to call.

You could put equipment in different   locations ,but it would be hard to trouble shoot. With this board it would be easy to check ,if Aquahot is up to temp and you have no hot water you go to this board.

Coils usually don’t start leaking for no reason ,most of time it is freeze ups,not winterized correctly

I disagree that tags have added more of these bandaids and that they have improved the handling more than the none tag rigs. I’ve put a total of 150K miles on 2 different S-10 chassis without adding anything…yes, adjust the TRW for 1/4” play. OK, second rig came with a S-T-+ that I disconnected until I made it adjustable on the fly…would have thrown it away otherwise. It’s 1500 miles to CO and I still do it in 2 days driving 99.8% of the miles and I’m pushing 80…age not mph.

I would love to drive a S10 with all the add ons so I could put it on cruise and go take a piss. I’d also like to disconnect the watts on a rig without the owner knowing to see if he notices the difference. This should stir the pot.

One is always at risk of DRILLING or cutting or going anywhere in the ceiling of a MH or a Monaco.  There is a maze of wires and also different construction.  NOW, if someone DOES have hands on experience....GREAT.  But, other than that....you are driving in the jungle with out a roadmap or GPS.

You CAN do some TEST cuts....and then insert a spy camera and figure out WHERE to go and if it will work.  Personally, the suggestion of a SOUND BAR might make sense or USE a Center Channel Speaker in the middle and turn the rear ones in the Left and Right.

Have a Plan for a "WHITE" cover plate to disguise your cuts....if you find it is impossible.  Proceed at your own risk and try to get into that area from the front...with a spy camera.  They work great and are cheap and you only need the 36" or 48" flex cord or cable.  Use a Tablet of a PC for a larger picture.  Phones are great if you have X-Ray vision like Superman.  My eyes need the larger screen size...

I was wondering what the "layers" might be like above the plywood that holds the headliner.  Is there a void across the entire ceiling for wiring, etc., or are there only raceways between insulation for the wiring from the factory?  I had a little bit of luck chasing a raceway from the nose cone to the kitchen, and then I had to drill from that one over to catch the HVAC ducting to make it the rest of the way back.  The HVAC ducting will prove to be a nice raceway now for me to put wiring into for future projects.  I've abandoned the rooftop A/C units and installed two mini split units to replace them.

2006 Dynasty with the multiplex system-

We’ve had several cool overnights, temps in the low 40’s high 30’s. The interior of the coach drops to the high 50* s .  When the temps drop, the touch panels for the multiplex lighting do weird things. They may turn a light on or off,the keypads may light and stay on, etc. is this due to age or are there connections that need to be cleaned and repaired?

Is this from the closet where the main panel is located getting cold?

Any suggestions?

We have MANY experts.  The matter or subject of improved handling is age old.  Wayne Wells was a design Engineer for Roadmaster.  He developed , for them, using his dad’s Monaco….a Diplomat….I think the Sway Bars.  I have discussed this with Scott Zimmer of Source….who was involved in the design and engineering department of Monaco. I now know Wayne personally.

Monaco Executives took test rides and were more than impressed.  However, the cost of making the Roadmaster Sway bars standard or optional was never resolved.  Eventually, when Source started, they focused on shocks as that was the number one complaint….Harsh Ride.  They paid for the testing and development of the Source tuned Bilsteins and that market took off, quite nicely.

They then obtained the marketing rights to the Wells designed Roadmaster sway bars.  They were different versions and types….that Wayne developed.  When you bought the Source Bars, you got Wayne’s cell and he was the tech support and they were shipped from Roadmaster….who manufactured them.

They were never needed for the Dynasty and above chassis.  They were not needed or sold for the Camelot’s, which was the only lower end that had a tag.  The non Tag Camelots were greatly improved by them.  I have them on both ends.

There was a LOT of chatter over the years.  There was a test run on a 2005 Exec.  Front watts and rear cross braces.  A professional driver installed them.  His comments were a “slight” improvement….but the most noticeable effect was the Blue Ox TruCenter’s “leveraged” improvement.  I noticed the same thing.  Tightening the front end up made a pronounced positive impact on my MH and the steering and handling.  That is why the WATTS and TRW box mate up and are the defacto standard.

Many experienced and knowledgeable Dynasty owners have watched and studied the videos and understand the geometry of the Watts.  A well adjust TRW or even a Shepherd on a Dynasty is far superior to what the Camelot’s have.  There comes a matter of the 90/10 rule. You get 90 of the solution or improvement from 10% of the total cost of the ULTIMATE.  Based on what I know, my hands on experience in upgrading, my driving skills and way more reading and talking than you can imagine.    That rule sticks.  NOW THERE IS a Rear Watts.  I chose NO X or cross braces.  You can only see almost imperceptible improvements, I think, in them.  BUT, if one has the skills ans resources and the desire to have the Ultimate in MH handling….then the rear watts and braces will maybe do that or after all the work, their “fine tuned” seat brags….so be it.

As to the Dynasty.  A tag Dynasty only needs two things.  An adjustable Steering stabilizer and good shocks.  Source is the gold standard.  Koni a distant second.  This will NOT improve the “handling”….but it is a must for ride quality.

I base that on a lot of info…but, if it pleases one to have the ultimate of anything, regardless of measurable improvements…..and costs…..then do it,

I deal in costs and benefits and improvements….most of the time,  My C7 Vette is a “personal” wannee….and can never be justified….unless I factor in pure driving enjoyment.  My Wife’s ATS with electromagnetic shocks will not pull the G’s of my Vette….even with HP rubber…..and she does NOT like more than a “G”.  But it comes close to being as much fun to drive as my Vette.  I invested a lot in my upgrades and it has been done in stages so I can determine each addition.  The Watts came last…..and it was TWICE what i had done precisely….

I did do a search and found another thread that had similar questions but they were not directly answered.

I adjusted my striker bolts as best I can but have a couple of questions.

Because they don't "float" all that easily, should I put some silicone spray behind the plate?  They are loose-ish but they are very difficult to move - I doubt the door can move them.  Any looser and I fear the nut on the back will eventually vibrate off.

How far are they supposed to move up and down?

What is the mechanism behind the bolt? I assume there is a nut on the backside - will it vibrate off if I leave it too loose?

You have either a bad set of Ballasts and they are robbing power…each module is rated at an effective 70 amps. OR,

You have some issues in the main 3 wire data buss. OT

The other thing…..there is an electronic gremlin in the System

Turn OFF the Battery cut off switch…leave it off for say 15 minutes.  Then turn on.  IF you had a voltage blip or an interruption and a faulty (was interrupted) boot….that is EXACTLY how it will work.

REBOOT is always the first step.  Having good house batteries is imperative.  Have you checked the connections?  There are upstream circuit breakers.  We have had individuals that had such….they chased the large cables on each module and the CPU.  They found loose connections.  If it is COLD….then I would wonder about the connections between the batteries and the main rear Buss.  When metals shrink….then intermittent connections occur.

Start with the simple….reboot…..then isolate which key pads and which circuits are on them.  Maybe one module or a power (high resistance) connections….

@Frank McElroy and @pwhittle are our resources and gurus…..reach out to them,

Thanks to both of you for direction.

I did try the reset, while working on other normal things that break (ie, hinges) and cleaning refrigerator for storage till January.

The reset seemed to work. This unit I purchased new in fall 2003. Was a show model. I have all info supplied when purchased. I looked again about the manual. The only thing I have is a 4 page small users manual that tells you how to set the temp and zones. Doesn't surprise me. Over the years I've found other stuff not included in the Monaco box.

Since everything is carefree that would make sense. I just had to replace the cover over the passenger side front slide. Easy to do, not inexpensive. I'll call to see what they have. I believe I can make out of flat aluminum new mounting brackets. Carefree had a buy through dealership mentality before, but they sold to me direct for the slide cover. (I understand why, since I worked in distributor business.) Surprised when they said they'd sell direct. The shutter unit have white paper that i guess use to have the model and number. Time does funny things.

I'll spend some time trying to find the Smart Wheel software. Strange that it just didn't start up after working find going north.

ABSOLUTELY THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU.

PRAYERS and THOUGHTS for those impacted by Helene....we never expected this....
Steve P

@Tom Cherry and others - I'm right there with you.  Our troubles in NE Georgia due to Helene were almost insignificant compared to NC.  Places we love and were planning to visit during October are wiped out, businesses washed away, and dear friends and acquaintances without power, water, food, or communications in staggering numbers.  Catastrophic devastation barely begins to describe it.  The feeling of helplessness is almost mind-numbing, but each of us can make a difference in the quality of life for those impacted.  With the brain cells we have, we decided to use the God-given resources we have been blessed with to support Samaritan's Purse, and Send Relief (an arm of the North American Mission Board), both of whom are organizations with integrity and a proven track record. Furthermore, we set up a DAF (donor advised fund) about a year ago, and have been using that as the means of channeling contributions to those organizations.  It's essentially a foundation set up thru Schwab in our case, but could equally have been thru Fidelity or other brokerage.  Ours is the "No Other Name foundation" (a reference to Scripture that is obvious).  You can set up your own DAF or, if you wish, contribute to ours or some other DAF, or open your own.  It has the same tax benefit to the individual making the contribution regardless of which way you choose to do it.  A chat with your financial advisor will help clarify the rules.  There are also Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD's) one can use to offset RMD's if you are of the age those are mandated. Using the most tax-advantaged mechanisms for giving is simply to make the funds we have go farther (to the charitable organization, rather than to the gubment).

Above all, pray for those who are struggling to survive an unprecedented and nightmarish weather event.  As a former backpacking enthusiast, I have witnessed how debilitating dysentery can be.  And without medical intervention, well, it can be life-threatening.

The grooving on the shaft is hardened steel.  The wiper itself is soft aluminum.  When the soft aluminum strips out it leaves the grooves in the shaft full of aluminum material.  If you will take a sharp pick tool or wire brush and clean the steel grooves, I think that you will find that the shaft can be reused.  When you torque down the wiper onto the shaft it will cut new grooves in the soft aluminum.  If you do not torque it sufficiently, it will strip off again.  Of course, if you torque it too much, you will break the shaft.  Good luck.

Hi Fred.  I had the same issue with the Carefree shade mounting bracket and as previously mentioned, there are no parts available.  I found some 1" square aluminum stock from an old tv antenna and fashioned a short piece long enough to go over the broken end.  It took a little stretching of the square stock but not much.  I then found a small spacer to put between the square stock so a screw could be put through the repair to re-attach the shade when the repair was complete.  I filled the square stock with JB weld and let it dry.  When everything was dry, I re-attached the shade and it's been working for over two years.  This fix might work if it was just the ear of the bracket that broke off.  Good luck.

ALL.  Please respond with information concerning this.

It is suggested that @Fred L do a Search of the TOPICS and then download the VIP manual and read the troubleshooting guide.  If this research does not resolve the problem, then it might be more advantageous to make a post for help on an existing VIP Trouble Topic.  There are probably 10 or more topics on the VIP Smart Wheel.

2004 Camelot Intermittent HVAC operation

Need a little more information.

Do you have an Aquahot system or do you have two furnaces.  You can check that by looking and reading.  If you have an Aquahot system....then you will have to do some reading to understand how it works.

The usual issue with intermittent...and odds are... you do NOT HAVE a Thermostat issue.  If so, then the options are limited as there are no REFURBISHED 5 Buttons out there. Members often, without understanding the troubleshooting and way the Dometic MPX system work....blame of make erronous comments....often times they order the very expensive Aftermarket Thermostat....only to find... IT DOES NOT WORK...therefore they then have to find the issue...which is usually a "bad connection" or rarely, a bad Dometic controller. We just went down this path....and now the member's system works great.

SO....tell us which "FRONT HEATER" are you talking about.  The HVAC vents for HP or the floor register or the DASH HVAC.  That Dash HVAC is NOT connected or integrated with the Roof Top HVAC system.

Then, once we know, we can help...

Thanks....

I’m in the same boat as Jeff. My coach is 40’ with tag. TRW box is tight and I recently replaced a failed Tru-Center with the Safe-T-Plus. I am planning on new shocks prior to next season and have also been talkIng to Mike Hughes about the Watts link for the front. My coach doesn’t handle terrible currently and I can put a lot of hours behind the wheel when needed but I definitely can feel when trucks pass me from behind and I definitely have to pay attention and unless it’s dead calm on real good roads I am always correcting. I was really hoping for a good improvement with the shocks and Watts but you guys got me wondering.

Harry, that article is what sold me on Bilstein Comfort Series as well!

Their fine on smooth roads, but, I have a feeling there's better!

I recently reached out to Bilstein to see if they have any other shocked options with the same physical characteristics as the 24-187312. I will post their response if indeed I hear back from them

It is one that was merged or had to be moved as the original one was a laundry list of three things and folks were jumping around.  The site rules specifically do not allow this.

Please read the title...

Thanks.

There have been hundred, not an exaggeration, in the past 15 years or so.  90% or 95% of the time...there is a COMMUNICATIONS ISSUE...as in the data cables (they look like phone lines) are NOT making contact or have had moisture and corroded or vibrated loose.  This is quite common.

The first step.  Remove the two covers that hold the filter and the housing.  Need alcohol and Q-Tips or maybe a small brush. Clean the female and male RJ11 terminals.  REPEAT CLEANING.  Then plug in one of the danglers or the Cables from the TOP...to either of the data cables.  You CAN mark them before you unplug...but they are designed for an assembler to put together and NO polarized or such.

When you plug in the cables to the coupler.  PUSH IN TIGHT.  Then remove and repeat a few times.  This cleans the contacts. Do the same for the REAR as well. It will only have ONE cable and the other Dangler is not used.  You can swap...again it does not matter.

Pop or remove the Thermostat from the Wall.  Clean the rear female on the thermostat and the end of the data cable.  Plug and unplug a few times.

NOW follow Richard's advice.  RESET IT.  The Thermostat should read FF and then it will be reset.

You need to fix this or get it working.

Please respond with the info requested...

How to run new 30A Romex from Main Panel to inverter? 1999 Diplomat.
Dick Roberts

Thanks for all the input. After much searching and testing, another loose connection was found. No new wires had to be pulled. All circuits test okay, on shore power and running off the generator. Now I have to continue getting it ready to sell, sadly, and start a new adventure. Thanks again

Dick

Hmm.

Passing Semi's don't move me in my lane at all!

My previous 36' gas coach (light), I had to watch the mirrors and be ready to steer towards a passing truck a bit, but not this coach!

That’s exactly what I do. It’s not terrible but they definitely affect me.

It usually comes down to the speed difference between you, and the passing semi.

If it is travelling much faster than you, the bow wave is likely going to move you.

That’s not the case. They can be traveling by estimation 5-10 mph faster. I usually run 65-67  so they aren’t blasting by me.  In my eyes, the Roadmaster chassis just has too many moving components to provide a real confident feel and tight chassis to driver feedback. I certainly know and understand that it isn’t a sports car but I’ve drive semi’s and a couple other high end coaches and none of them are anywhere near as “busy” as my coach

Jef & Steven, go to https://monacowatts.com to watch my video I made years ago.  My 40’ coach still drives the same. I adjust my steering box every couple of years to keep it tight. I run 1/16” toe in, and have Roadmaster front and rear anti sway bars, Koni shocks, front and rear Watts links, and the X braces.

I did the above in steps to see what the improvement came with each. Also, on the previous page here,  is why I have Koni shocks.
