Garmin versus 'Other' GPS system(s)

Any cell based mapping software would act the same. 

You can download Google maps ahead of time, but who does that?

Probably the same people who think they might venture into an area with bad or non-existent cell coverage (like much of Vermont and a good bit of New Hampshire, two of our favorite states to visit!)

Which is why I download the maps in the RVLife App at times to at least one device, most often my phone.  However, the satellite resolution on the downloaded maps is not detailed enough to make left or right turn decisions from an overhead view, as described in a previous post regarding Garmin.  I will have to check a tablet and the computer separately at some point in the future.
